News Burbling Like A Barnard Brook

Barnard’s Dorothy Thompson would likely have been “all over” this latest BGS News!

Good Morning Early Birds…

We hear that what may become a historic agreement will be signed this morning at 10am at the Barnard General Store…

A one-year lease involving the owner of the store,  William Twigg-Smith and a “pairing” of a Barnard “Re-Boot BGS” community group with a  historic preservation non-profit. Simply put, we believe it appears to be a “rent-to-buy” situation which gives this “Non-Profit Pair”a year to operate the store while coming up with the money to outright buy it.

Deal brokered by Barnard local John Snyder, of Woodstock-area Snyder Bassette Real Estate.

Barnard records show Twigg-Smith bought the store for $750,000 and — if the deal goes through — will eventually sell at a loss.

Significance to the general population of all this? A continued anchor point for the Barnard community on the bonny, bonny banks of Silver Lake providing coffee, beer, groceries, conversation and we hope ICE CREAM.  Although Woodstock Early Bird understands one needs to sell a whole lot of ice cream to keep a place in business and ICE CREAM isn’t gonna’  “bring it home.” So, perhaps, we’ll also soon be hearing of new BGS entrepreneurial efforts to meet a daunting goal!

Details to follow.  We – like most – can’t help but love a “Good News!” story.

Well, that is good news, maybe they will look to have local products in the store as well.
