Fishy-Fishy: Wood Mtn. Fish Via Taftsville Country Store

Alrighty then, if you’ve been wondering how to hook up (tee-hee) with the Wood Mountain Fish truck guys (aka Executive Chef Jason Merrill and the Gang (WMF owner Ethan Wood)  who have the most exemplary fish procurement standards and some fancy new refrigerated trucks), we have just learned that Taftsville Country Store will set you up!

This is exciting news for Woodstock Early Birds, in particular this one who has many recipes involving shrimp and who used to catch a Maine flounder herself from time to time back in the day and who certainly — after time in Alaska —  has become quite loyal and accustomed to only Wild Alaskan salmon (not that a good Atlantic Salmon is anything to shake a fish gill at…). In any case…

The deal is TCS (Taftsville Country Store) will put in the order for you (457-1135…must go in by Thursday AM), the fish is picked up by the Wood Mtn. Fish Truck from the Atlantic Coast/Harbor Friday morning, gets to Taftsville @ 2pm or so and ready for YOU to pick-up and GRILL between 4pm and 6pm.

So the offerings — in particular — this week are:

Flounder @ $13.99/lb.  (three to four fillets per lb.)

Shrimp flown up from South Carolina @ $16.99/lb. (16-20 shrimp per lb.)

and yes….

Lobster @ $13.00/lb. (female hard-shells)

Here’s more from Taftsville Country Store owner Victoria Brooks:

My fish monger is Jason Merrill (Wood Mountain Fish) he goes to the Harbor and picks it up in the morning (Friday) and we have it here by 2 ready for folks to pick up from TCS between 4-6.  Boat – truck- grill.  We have been doing it for about a month or so – and everything we have gotten has been fabulous (cod, scallops, clams, sword fish, muscles, lobster) – can’t get it any fresher anywhere in Vermont.    We also do a wine paring with the selections for the day and offer 15% off of the selected wines. Call Victoria at 802-457-1135

We have had swordfish, lobsters and little necks and they have all been delicious. Thanks to Wood MTN Fish and TCS for Friday Night Fish Night!

We had swordfish and I was absolutely stunned at how fresh the fish was compared to the supermarket. You simply cannot get it fresher anywhere. Oh, did I say it was delicious?

Of course, Ethan’s fish has been available at the Woodstock Farmers Market all along. We are all lucky to have such good fish here in vermont.

  5. We are so thrilled to be able to offer this boat to grill in the same day option to the community! We also provide chef selected wines at 15% off our already low price and ideas for how to prepare your “catch”. Special orders of items not on the menu are also welcome if we can get the item fresh that day – salmon has been a favorite. This has been a great niche for our store which is suffering tremendously from the T-Ville and Quechee bridges being closed. Stay tuned for another great fresh food option coming late summer! Thanks to everyone who shops, supports or is otherwise interested in keeping our unique small local businesses going! If you haven’t been in WE are STILL your GRANDPA’s Country Store with some wonderful new additions – including personal service and a “we will do whatever it takes to earn and keep your business” kind of vibe!
