“Governors Cheddar” Garners Accolades

Forget about the Olympics people: It’s all about the OLYMPICS OF CHEESE. We hear that our own local South Woodstock cheesemakers, Vermont Farmstead Cheese,  have garned a BRONZE MEDAL for their YOUNG-ish cheddah! Vermont flags aflying! Sampling must begin immediately!

Apparently a little Shummy in the mix didn’t hurt one bit — not withstanding anyone’s politics — sometimes it’s that “secret sauce” that makes all the difference. We’re talking that Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin happened to help make the cheese that got a BRONZE!

Here’s a brief report from Vince Galluccio of the SoWoe Cheeseheads:

At the American Cheese Society annual conference in Raleigh, NC this week,  VFC’s Governors Cheddar took a third place in the Category aged Cheddar 12 to 24 months against Cheddars for all over the Continental US and Canada.

The first batch of this Cheddar was made with Governor Shumlin’s assistance while on a visit to VFC.  There were 254 companies from the United States and Canada and 1711 cheeses entered in various categories at the show.

It was VFC’s first time in the show and placing third among such long-standing cheese companies entered was a tribute to the hard teamwork and dedication of the VFC staff.

GO TEAM!  And thanks to the VFC COWS for the MILK!
