SUMMARY OF CRASH: On August 24, 2012 at approximately 10:21 PM the Hartford Police Department received a report of a possible intoxicated male on Route 4 in Quechee jumping in and out of traffic.  Moments later the Hartford Police Department received numerous 911 calls indicating that this pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle.  The pedestrian was identified as 20 year old Joshua Rice, of Hartford, VT.
Investigation found that Rice had gotten out of a vehicle driven by 26 year old Eric Canales of Hartford, VT after having an argument.  Rice then began jumping in front of traffic and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.  Rice was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.  Canales was subsequently  arrested for driving under suspension.  This investigation is still on going. No other criminal charges have been filed at this time.
