Thetford Taser Death Update

Update in Thetford Incident
The taser’ing of a man in Thetford recently has led to much controversey over the use of the stun gun devices by law enforcement. However, the investigation into the circumstances of Macadam Mason’s death are ongoing. (Woodstock’s own William Boardman has written extensively about this subject.)

Vermont State Police have just released this latest information from the New Hampshire Medical Examiner:

Thetford, VT -Today, the Vermont State Police received new information regarding the death of Macadam Mason, age 39 of Thetford, Vermont. According to the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the cause of death is sudden cardiac death due to conducted electrical weapon discharge.

The manner of death is classified as Homicide; which is a medical classification rather than a legal definition. Other significant conditions include heart disease and Excited Delirium Syndrome.

Mr. Mason’s family has been advised of the findings.

As soon as the Vermont State Police receives the autopsy report from the New Hampshire OCME it will be included with the criminal investigation and submitted to the Vermont Attorney General’s Office and Orange County State’s Attorney’s Office for independent reviews, as is customary.

The autopsy report will not be released by the Vermont State Police, as the autopsy report is part of a criminal investigation and exempt from inspection pursuant to 1 V.S.A. §317(c)(5).

A thorough review of the incident in Thetford continues. Once the evaluation is complete it will be reviewed by the State Police Advisory Commission, to help determine if a change in state police policy is warranted.

There is no other information available at this time, as the investigation is on-going.

And it took only three months to conclude the obvious.
“Excited Delerium Syndrome” should be approached skeptically
    as possible pseudo-science.
