Laid Off Jiffy Mart Worker Accused of Burglary

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: Officers responded to the Jiffy Mart located at 6800 Woodstock Road in Quechee for a burglary in progress.

Officers were already in the area checking on a suspicious vehicle parked behind Firestone’s Restaurant across from the Jiffy Mart when the alarm came in.

The vehicle was reported as suspicious by a Valley News delivery driver after having seen the vehicle pull in behind the restaurant.

The vehicle had been driven there by 21 year old Jacob Waters of Hartford, VT.

Waters allegedly parked at Firestone’s and went across the street to the Jiffy Mart, from where he had just been fired from his job.

Waters broke into the establishment and stole over $1000 in cash. Waters then fled.

Hartford Officers were assisted on scene by a Lebanon Police K9 and a Vermont State Police K9.

After a lengthy investigation and a search of approximately three square miles of woods, Officers were able to recover the stolen money belonging to the Jiffy Mart.

Waters is scheduled to appear at the Windsor Superior Court-Criminal Division on 12/4/12 to answer the charge.
