Windsor County Court House Bond for Accessibility

windsor county court houseWe are in receipt of this announcement from the Windsor County Clerk concerning plans to make handicap accessible renovations to the historic 1855 Windsor County Court House building. Changes to include a stair tower and elevator to be placed at the rear of the building.

Woodstock Early Bird called to find out the exact amount of the proposed bond, but was not able to get an immediate answer. However, a projected budget summary for FY13-14, issued by the Windsor County Clerk, appears to show an increase of $207, 000 from the $35,900 FY12-13  “Building Expense” line item.  This is notice that the public is welcome to attend the meeting:

Public Notice of Bond Discussion

On Wednesday, December 19, 2012, immediately following the preliminary budget hearing at the Windsor County Court House, 12 the Green, Woodstock, Vermont, the Assistant Judges will hold an informational meeting to discuss a proposed bond issue. Said bond issue, which will be used to finance court house renovations, is scheduled to be voted upon by the town of Windsor County on Town Meeting Day, March 5th, 2013.

The bond will be used to convert the Windsor County Court House into a handicapped accessible facility. An addition housing a stair tower and an elevator will be constructed at the rear of the building. Simultaneously, the interior will be renovated to mee the programmatic needs of the court. The bond, if approved, will be amortized over a 20-year period.

The architects for the project, the Assistant Judges, a representative from the State of Vermont, and the building superindentent will be present.
