Whoosh Weathersfield Clocks 47mph Gust: GMP Power Report

A Woodstock Early Bird just sent this photo of Green Mountain Power trucks at the intersection of Carlton Hill and College Hill Roads. Meantime, Green Mountain Power outage reports indicate sporadic outages across the region, but the most seriously affected is the town of Rochester.

Here is a Green Mountain Power Press Release sent around 5pm:

Restoration from damaging winds makes significant progress; all customers to be restored by early Friday morning.

Rutland, VT… GMP crews have restored power to 11,328 customers as of 5:00 this evening. A series of back to back wind events began late Wednesday evening and ramped up again today around mid morning. The winds caused trees, limbs and branches to fall taking down power lines in their path.

“We’ve made great progress restoring power to our customers, and we have every known outage assigned to our line crews and tree trimmers,” said Jeremy Baker, GMP spokesperson. “We’re hoping to restore power to the remaining 2,811 customers by midnight, but cleanup work could continue into the early morning hours tomorrow.”

Winds approaching 50mph were reported throughout Vermont with a high of 47 reported in Weathersfield. Gusts above 40 were also reported in Milton, Fair Haven, Montpelier and Georgia. The existing wind alert is expected to expire at 6 p.m. this evening.
