The VDP Elects Dottie Deans as Chair

Montpelier, Vt. – On Saturday, the Vermont Democratic Party state committee voted unanimously to elect former Vice Chair Dottie Deans of North Pomfret as Chair of the Vermont Democratic Party.

“It is an honor for me to continue my work with the Vermont Democratic Party as the newly elected chairwoman.  For the past two years I have worked alongside an incredible team of dedicated and focused staff members. I look forward to continuing our work concentrating on our biennial reorganization in our towns, counties, and state as well as supporting our elected representatives here and in Washington and preparing for the 2014 elections,” said Deans.

Deans spent 14 years as an elementary school teacher in the Cherry Creek school district in Colorado after graduating from the University of Denver. After moving to Vermont, Deans became involved in the Democratic Party at the grassroots level beginning as Town Chair of Pomfret, before becoming elected Windsor County Chair, and finally elected as Vice Chair of the state party in 2011.

“As a teacher I know that an integral part of learning is listening and staying focused on the tasks at hand. I will concentrate on working with all Democrats to grow and strengthen our outreach and presence throughout our state.”

Dottie also has been dedicated to her local HIV/AIDS Service organization, H2RC, since 1999 serving as a volunteer, staff member, and most recently stepped down as the Board Chair. She remains passionate about the mission of H2RC and continues to serve on the board.

She lives in North Pomfret, Vermont with her partner of 17 years, Lydia Spitzer.

James Valente of Brattleboro was elected to the Vice Chair position and will serve in that capacity until party reorganization in November.
