Fatal Crash Victim Identified

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On May 9, 2013 at approximately 3:54 PM Hartford Police responded to Woodstock Road (US Route 4) at Wood Road for a report of a fatal motor vehicle crash.

A 1995 Subaru Legacy operated by 40 year old Patience Hutt of Woodstock, VT was traveling west when she collided with a 2012 Peterbilt tractor pulling an empty horse trailer that was traveling east.

The tractor trailer was operated by 44 year old Billy Surles of Howe, TX.

A 2012 Nissan Versa operated by 41 year old Nicolas Allard of France was traveling west behind Hutt and sustained minor damage when the tractor trailer clipped the rear of the vehicle prior to going down the embankment on the north side of the roadway.

Hutt was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither Surles nor his 28 year old co-driver, Raymond Keyrouse also of Texas were injured.

Allard and his passenger, 41 year old Christophe Manet also of France escaped injury as well.

Route 4 in the area was closed for several hours and is expected to remain closed until approximately 10pm when the removal of the tractor trailer is expected to be complete.

Vermont State Police’s crash reconstruction team responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Inspectors from the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles responded to the scene as well to assist with the investigation regarding the tractor trailer. All parties were wearing seat belts. The incident remains under investigation.
