Taftsville Bridge Roof Is Up…So Is The River

Many Woodstock Early Birds in absentia have asked how the Taftsville Covered Bridge is doing since its disruption and dismantling after Hurricane Irene. As you see here in this photo taken @ 9am Saturday morning… Its rebuild is well underway with the roof having gone up just last week. Today, the Ottauquechee River waters were flowing hard and rising due to a low pressure system sitting over Vermont.

In this photo of the upstream side of the Ottauquechee River in front of the Taftsville Bridge, you can see on the far bank the restoration rip-rap put in after Hurricane Irene washed out that portion of River Road. The foreground island created by Irene has been used recently as a fishing camp by local kids.
