NWS: Flood Watch Through Friday Night

…FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY
EVENING…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD WATCH FOR THE NORTHERN ADIRONDACKS AND NORTHERN AND
CENTRAL VERMONT.

* FROM THURSDAY EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING

* FLOODING IS POSSIBLE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY AS MODERATE
TO HEAVY RAINFALL MOVES SOUTH TO NORTH ACROSS THE REGION. TWO
AND A HALF INCHES OF RAIN IS FORECAST FOR THE ADIRONDACKS AND
CENTRAL VERMONT…WITH ONE TO TWO INCHES ALONG THE CANADIAN
BORDER AND CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY.

HEAVY RAINFALL THIS PAST
MONTH HAS SATURATED SOILS…AND RIVERS AND STREAMS ARE RUNNING
WELL ABOVE NORMAL. THE WET CONDITIONS COUPLED WITH ADDITIONAL
RAINFALL ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FLOOD THREAT.

* SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS WILL SEE SHARP RISES AT THE ONSET OF
HEAVY RAIN. AREAS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED FLASH FLOODING OVER THE
PRECEDING WEEKS WILL BE PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE TO RENEWED HEAVY
RAINFALL.
