NWS: Flash Flood Watch 2pm Through Tuesday

FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THE EASTERN ADIRONDACKS MOUNTAINS IN NEW
YORK AND ALL OF VERMONT…INCLUDING THE CHAMPLAIN VALLEY.

* FROM 2 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING.

* TWO ROUNDS OF MODERATE TO LOCALIZED HEAVY RAINFALL IS EXPECTED
ACROSS THE NORTH COUNTRY THROUGH TUESDAY. THE FIRST ROUND WILL
IMPACT SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL VERMONT THIS AFTERNOON AND
EVENING…WITH 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN POSSIBLE BY MIDNIGHT.
MEANWHILE…SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL REDEVELOP
AREA WIDE ON TUESDAY…WITH LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING POSSIBLE.

* HEAVY RAIN THE PAST WEEK HAS SATURATED SOILS…AND RIVERS AND
STREAMS ARE RUNNING MUCH ABOVE NORMAL. THESE CONDITIONS
COMBINED WITH ADDITIONAL RAINFALL ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FLOOD
THREAT.

* AREAS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED FLASH FLOODING OVER THE PRECEDING
WEEKS WILL BE PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE TO RENEWED HEAVY RAINFALL
AND ADDITIONAL FLOODING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
