C-SPAN founder Brian Lamb will present the keynote address at the annual Coolidge Foundation Annual Gala on August 2, 2013, at the President Coolidge Museum and Education Center in Plymouth, Vermont.  The Gala evening begins at 5:30.

Generously co-sponsored by the Bush Institute, the Coolidge Annual Gala includes the championship round of the New England High School Debate Competition.

The championship round caps a day-long debate competition at the President Coolidge State Historic Site, where over 120 high school students will debate an economic policy related topic.

The annual gala is organized by the Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation, which was established in 1960 to honor President Coolidge by preserving a way of life in Coolidge’s hometown of Plymouth.  Today, the Foundation’s mission is to open the eyes of the world to Calvin Coolidge through educational programming, by maintaining primary source materials, and through embracing his timeless values, character, and practice of careful governance.

Keynote speaker Brian Patrick Lamb is the founder, former executive chairman, and now retired CEO of C-SPAN, an American cable network that provides coverage of Congress as well as other public affairs events.  Known for his unique interview style, focusing on short, direct questions, Mr. Lamb is the recipient of numerous awards, including Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Humanities Medal.

The Bush Institute’s Economic Debate Program is a signature initiative of the their  4% Growth Project.  The goal of the program is to encourage students to think critically about economic issues during their formative years.

The debate competition is the culmination of a multi-week debate camp at Dartmouth College.

Over 100 high school debaters will visit the Coolidge site on August 2nd for one day of competition, culminating in the final debate during the evening. The winners of the debate will go on to compete in the finals, held in Dallas in the fall.
