NWS: Heat and Humidity to Increase Throughout Day

Wednesday ForecastSpecial Weather Statement from the National Weather Service -- 
which advises NOT leaving your 
dog in the car!! 

Woodstock Early Bird sees all too many vehicles
locally with dogs inside and windows just open a crack. 

Which is more important: Whatever valuables you are apparently
trying to protect by rolling up your windows OR your living
 -- hopefully still breathing -- dependent PET??!

It seems obvious, but apparently it isn't: Windows open a crack are 
NOT adequate!! If it's too hot, leave the critter home!

In Vermont, for endangering the life of a pet in such a way, 
you may be fined up to $2000 and also sent to prison for up to a year!

...STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE LATER TODAY...
...HEAT INDEX VALUES OF 92 TO 98 EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON...

SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE
REGION THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SOME OF THE STORMS MAY BECOME
SEVERE WITH DAMAGING WIND GUSTS THE PRIMARY THREAT. 

THE MAIN FOCUS FOR STRONGER STORMS WILL BE ACROSS NORTHERN NEW YORK 
AND CENTRAL AND NORTHERN VERMONT WITH THE STORMS TRACKING EAST 
TO SOUTHEAST FROM SOUTHERN CANADA. 

IF PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES THIS
AFTERNOON AND EVENING...PLEASE KEEP AN EYE TO THE SKY AND ABREAST
OF THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION. BE PREPARED TO SEEK SAFE
SHELTER OR HARBOR QUICKLY SHOULD STRONGER STORMS APPROACH. 

ISOLATED FLASH FLOODING IS ALSO POSSIBLE IN AREAS THAT EXPERIENCE MORE
PERSISTENT THUNDERSTORMS.

HIGH TEMPERATURES TODAY WILL CLIMB INTO THE LOWER AND MID 90S
ACROSS THE LOWER ELEVATIONS OF VERMONT AND NORTHERN NEW YORK TODAY
INCLUDING THE CHAMPLAIN AND SAINT LAWRENCE VALLEYS. WITH HIGH
HUMIDITY EXPECTED ONCE AGAIN...APPARENT TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB
INTO THE 92 TO 98 DEGREE RANGE IN MANY SPOTS FOR SEVERAL HOURS
THIS AFTERNOON.

HERE ARE SOME SAFETY TIPS TO BEST COPE WITH THE DANGERS OF HEAT.
WEAR LIGHTWEIGHT...LIGHT COLORED CLOTHING. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
OR NON-ALCOHOLIC FLUIDS. SLOW DOWN...STRENUOUS ACTIVITY SHOULD BE
AVOIDED. IF YOU MUST BE OUTSIDE...TRY TO LESSEN YOUR ACTIVITY AND
PERFORM IT DURING THE EARLY MORNING. AVOID PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO
THE HEAT AND SUN...FIND SHADE...AN AIR- CONDITIONED LOCATION OR
SWIMMING POOL. 

REMEMBER...YOUR PETS FEEL THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY
TOO. DO NOT LEAVE THEM ENCLOSED IN YOUR VEHICLE. 

PROVIDE YOUR PETS
WITH PLENTY OF COOL WATER AND KEEP THEM COOL OR IN A SHADED
ENVIRONMENT.
