AP: Helen Thomas has Died

The AP reports that the former doyenne of the White House Press Corps, Helen Thomas, has died.

As someone who worked alongside various news reporters and producers in Washington DC in the 80’s in covering White House press conferences, Woodstock Early Bird can attest to Thomas’ influence and her pressing, probing presence in particular during the Reagan Administration.

She was not above a good scrap in the pursuit of the facts or the truth. We would say she raised the bar for ALL journalists, not just women.

Woodstock Early Bird makes note of her passing having been young and impressionably influenced by her – even then – senior role among the press corps.

Arguably the most dogged crusader for truth the press corps has had for decades. They should dedicate a chair for her!

    • The politically correct kicked her out of the press corps. She was a columnist who had been hired to express her opinions after a long long long career but, alas, her opinion was not considered acceptable. Her whole life was about truth and eventually her personal truth. While the majority may not agree it does not mean that people cannot have unpopular opinions. It is called free speech. WEB

    • WC..Indeed the politically correct prevailed. However, the point is the politically correct are not necessarily or always liberal. So to categorize the liberals as to blame for her demise might be not entirely accurate. WEB

Pretty sure it was that famous liberal George W. Bush that took away her seat in the front row and wouldn’t take a question from her for years. You remember that guy, right? I think somebody may be watching a little too much Fox ‘Faux’ News.
