NWS: Heavy Rain Expected Throughout the Day

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR ESSEX COUNTY IN NEW YORK...AND ALL OF
  CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN VERMONT.

* THROUGH 6 PM THIS AFTERNOON

* WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE
  WATCH AREA TODAY. THE POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY RAINFALL ON THE ORDER
  OF 1 TO 2 INCHES IS LIKELY WITH ISOLATED TOTALS OF 3 TO 4 INCHES
  POSSIBLE IN MORE PERSISTENT STORM ACTIVITY. SHOWERS AND STORMS
  WILL TAPER OFF BY LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

* RAINFALL OF THIS MAGNITUDE MAY LEAD TO SHARP RISES ON AREA
  STREAMS AND LEAD TO POTENTIAL FLASH FLOODING IN AREAS RECEIVING
  MULTIPLE ROUNDS OF THUNDERSTORMS.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
