“We Have Lost A True Athlete…Thank You All For Your Prayers”

From Nancy Ferrero:

We have lost a true athlete. Jon Ferrero was my son. He did not come home last night, and his lunchbox is still on the kitchen table. When I last saw him he was on his way to a baseball tournament and he was so excited to be playing in it. He would not even let me wash his uniform from the playoff game on Saturday because the pants were going to give him luck on Sunday. They won their game and he was so happy. He had a good day on August 18, except that it was also the day that he died. Children are not supposed to die before their parents. We go to Cabot’s this morning and we are so very sad. Thank you all for your prayers.

    Nancy,
My heart aches for you and your family. Even though I don’t know you I am very sad as no children are not supposed to die. Your child was a very special one. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I cannot fathom your loss. I have experienced the loss of a beloved family member recently. the ONLY thing that has made me feel better was the fact that it wasn’t one of my children. You are in my thoughts and prayers. People’s kindness has been the only thing that’s kept me going this week. I hope you are surrounded by incredible love and support to hold while you grieve your unimaginable loss .

  4. We are so very sorry for your loss. We have fond memories of Jon playing ball and football. Ray always loved his enthusiasm and love of the game. I’ll always remember that legion game in Rutland where he was running home and the catcher thought that he’d block him at home plate, Jonny just put him up over his shoulder and made it home. Our thoughts are with you,

Dear Barbara and Ray: I smile when I remember Jon encounter at home plate in Rutland! David has been trying to find the box Morgan said all the videos from high school is in and he wants that video most of all. That actually was a Rutland PEG TV video. We are so blessed to have so many memories of our son Jon.

    Nancy-
Jon was such a great young man–the love and passion that he played the game I love so much was truly a gift to someone who could no longer throw or run or hit–I thank him and you all for that. There is no sense to be made out of something as terrible as this but I will cling to the memories of his smile, laughter, and the strength of his spirit. Our hearts and prayers go out to you–Andy and Dylan Stewart

    Dear Nancy,
I do know what you are feeling. We lost our son many years ago. The first 24 hours, or so, you are on auto pilot….making sure you are doing every last thing, you can, to prepare for your son’s funeral….You do all of these things perfectly, because it’s the last thing you will do for him….I know it so well, unfortunately! My heart breaks for you and your family. In reading other comments, Jon was a very special young man….may he rest in peace. A good friend, who also lost their son, sent these 4 sentences, to me, written by an unknown author…..I would like to share this with you and your family.
    Ascension
And if I go while you’re still here….know that I live on, vibrating to a different measure behind a thin veil, you can not see through.
You can not see me, so you must have faith.
I wait for the time we can soar together again, both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to the fullest, and when you need me just whisper my name in your heart, and I will be there…….
My prayers are with you and your entire family…..
    G-d bless you all……
    Sadly,
    Rachel Kates

Although we did not know Jon well, he seemed to be a kind young man. We enjoyed watching him play baseball. Jon had umped some of my sons baseball games,he took the time after the game was over & came over to give our son pointers on how to improve his game. Little things like that stand out{not only to our young son,but also to us as parents} it showed what a wonderful, caring person he was. He left a lasting impression that day. So sorry for loss. Our thoughts are with you.

    Nancy And Dave,
We are feeling horrible having heard the news about Jon. I feel very fortunate to have known him since his HS baseball days and Brian was very lucky to have had him as a teammate. Jonny was a gifted athlete and he played the game with great passion but more importantly he always played the game the right way! Our community has lost a fine young man, he will be missed and always remembered!

    Dave and Nancy,

I am deeply saddened by the loss of your son Jon. He was an amazing young man. I had the pleasure of working with him in his school days. He never gave up, frustrated yes, but never, ever gave up. He was one of my favorite young people in our community. I will forever remember the kind heart, and caring smile he always carried. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your family.

We were so sorry to hear about Jon. He was a funny and always upbeat kind of guy. Our family was so blessed to have known him. My favorite memories are of Jon scoring and my husband shouting out “way to go Johnnyyyyyyyyyyy”!

    Dave and Nancy,
I was a friend and teammate of Jon’s for a number of years. I will always remember the enthusiasm, passion and dedication he showed not only on the field, but in every aspect of his life. He was a true competitor who would never give in, yet in the same breath he was a true friend, always willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need without a second thought. I pray God may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have raised a truly great young man.

    Dear Nancy and Dave,
I am so sorry to hear to Jon’s death. I only knew him the year he was in third grade, but I was just thinking about him on Sunday as I drove home from Maine. when I had asked him one week in December (back in 2000)if he had ever gone to the wasail parade (my husband and I had just gone, being new to the area) …he rolled his eyes and said” Mrs McGee, that’s only for the tourists” ! He was a very funny and sweet guy even back then. I so enjoyed the times I spent with. How sad to then pick up an eagle times and read the sad news on the front page. Much love to all.
